    Dear Maple Heights Families,

Last week on Thursday, July 2nd, Governor DeWine provided his long awaited Ohio schools reopening guidance.  As recently as this past weekend both President Trump and the CDC have weighed in on their recommendations and additional guidance for school reopening.  While we are concerned that guidance and rules from key decision makers may continue to change over the next few weeks to a month, we are in a spot where we must begin to formalize our plans for opening up school for next year.  I wanted to share with you our tentative timeline to make that decision.   As we have learned over the past three months, these plans may need to change at a moment’s notice as guidance continues to change.

    Prior to today:
We have received increasing guidance from the governor, ODE, ODH, CCBH, NE Ohio ESC and other entities over the past three months regarding possibilities for opening.  Our staff has continually used this guidance, and through feedback worked to create beginning drafts of a full remote, full return and  hybrid opening scenarios (there are many variations of these hybrid openings). Our Board of Education has reviewed potential options for reopening this past weekend to eliminate plans that will not best meet the needs of our students, families and community, so that we can concentrate on ones that will.

    Week of July 13-19th
Meetings will be held throughout the week with administration, a parent sub-committee, MOST leadership, and MHTA leadership to more thoroughly vet the plan(s) that best meet our students’ and their families’ needs, and best consider our staff’s  needs.

A parent survey will be placed on our website and parents will be asked through our all call system to provide feedback about what their preferences are with reopening, and to assist in determining the number of students at each grade level who will opt into “remote only” learning in the Fall.

    Week of July 20-24th
Parent Feedback will be used to fine tune the work of the groups from the previous week to formalize our school reopening plan.  We anticipate our reopening plan will be announced by July 24th.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through this process to ensure everyone’s safety.

    Dr. Charlie Keenan
    Superintendent, Maple Heights City Schools
