The Maple Heights City School District believes that the health and safety of our students and staff is of paramount importance.
We recognize that remote instruction does not replace the high-quality instruction that comes with personal interaction between and among students and staff in our physical classrooms.
We have designed online learning classrooms for students in grades 4-12. We have mailed packets home to students in grades Pre-K-3rd grade for the fourth grading period.
We further recognize that grading policies need to align with this temporary form of instruction.
Students in grades K-3* will receive Pass/Incomplete grades for the fourth quarter based upon completion of assignments in the learning packet that was mailed home. Parents will upload assignments through Remind or some other type of technological tool.
*For any who was in danger of failing a course during the first three quarters of the year, it is imperative that he or she completes and submits the work provided for feedback from the teacher. If parent/student is struggling to understand the work, please reach out to teacher through Remind/Email/Phone.
Student in grades 4-8* will receive Pass/Incomplete grades for fourth quarter based upon completion/submission of online assignments/assessments. Students will have extended time and teachers will be flexible with deadlines to complete missing assignments. Teachers will work closely with families of students who have not submitted assignments and/or who are struggling to complete the work.
*It is imperative for any student who was at risk of failing a course during the first three grading periods to complete and submit the fourth quarter assignments. If a parent/student is struggling to understand the assignment(s) teachers are available during office hours in google classroom, via email, or through the Remind app to provide assistance.
Summer intervention is still undecided at this point but may be offered online for credit recovery for middle students who qualify.
Third quarter grades will remain as recorded unless students submit the first packet that was distributed on March 16, 2020. If students submit the first packet which represents one week of work from the third nine-week grading period, teachers will grade the packet and consider the work as a possible means of improving the third quarter grade. Students have until April 25, 2020 to submit this work. After April 30, 2020, the 3rd quarter grades will be final, and no changes will be made.
Students in grades 9-12 will receive traditional grades for the fourth quarter/final grades. Teachers will record, in Progressbook, 1-2 grades weekly. Students will receive feedback and support as well as extended deadlines for completion of assignments. Teachers will work closely with families of students who have not submitted assignments and/or who are struggling to complete the work.
