College and Career

College & Career Corner

Hi there! My name is Emily Panzero, and I am the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Coordinator at Maple Heights High School. My role involves assisting students with career exploration as well as college and scholarship applications. I also work with the curriculum team and the teachers to coordinate the implementation of the career-readiness curriculum in all four grades, and organize various trips and events that expose students to different post-secondary options. I collaborate closely with College Now of Greater Cleveland, who provide workshops, test prep, and advising for our students. For a list of helpful resources, please click here. You can also follow the Maple Heights CCR Instagram page at @mhhs_ccr

Below is a breakdown of the CCR curriculum that will be used in each grade this year:

  • 9th Grade: In the Stang Nation course, students are working with the program Find Your Grind to explore careers that would fit well with their interests. They will also complete Franklin Covey’s Leader in Me program featuring the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, which also earns them 1 credential point towards their graduation requirements.

  • 10th Grade: Sophomores are also completing the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens in their advisory class.

  • 11th Grade: In advisory, juniors are working through Maximum Potential’s Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt and Green Belt programs. Upon completion of both programs, students will receive 9 industry credentials to go towards graduation. The skills they learn here will assist them in ANY future career!

  • 12th Grade: Seniors are also completing the Lean Six Sigma program in advisory. Each student will also be meeting with their counselor to discuss future plans as well as have the opportunity to participate in college application and financial aid workshops.

FAFSA

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the application that students need to fill out to be eligible for grants and loans from the government, as well as many college’s scholarships. The FAFSA is now open! Seniors will have the chance to get started on it during advisory. The sooner it is completed, the more likely students are to get grant money. In order to complete the FAFSA, both the student and a parent/guardian need to create an account, aka the FSA ID. You can create your FSA ID now by clicking here!

Planning for the future can be stressful and confusing, but there are plenty of people at MHHS who can help you and your child navigate this exciting time!
